Born from the collaboration between the Rencontres d’Arles, the Institut pour la photographie des Hauts-de-France and Orbe, Œil pour Œil is a digital workshop to introduce the reading and practice of photographic images. Œil pour Œil was co-written with photographers who playfully share their approach, their perspective, and the way they think and construct their images.

In this first version of the tool, Charlotte Abramow and Matthieu Gafsou, two photographers with very different approaches and practices, accompany us in the discovery of their photographic work and guide us, step by step, through their shooting protocol.

In the style of a photographic score, the protocol is a time of playful practice guided by the photographer's voice. Each protocol is developed from audio instructions that the participant is invited to interpret and follow. The tablet or smartphone serves as interfaces to construct this experience, without replacing the observation, creativity, intuition, and thinking of each individual. At the end of the protocol, the moment of taking the photo allows for creating an image that captures the choices, perceptions, and intentions of each participant.

Matthieu Gafsou's protocol can be done individually or by a group of two or three people. Charlotte Abramow's protocol is done in pairs: a model and a photographer.
