Over the past fifteen years, Orbe has been developing and promoting the concept of “situated media”:
a medium whose expression is intimately linked to the context in which it is broadcast, whether in terms of location, temporality, weather conditions, receiver behavior or social interactions. In this way, a situated medium is never static.Malleable and evolving, it adapts, transforms and mutates to fit the current situation, from which it emanates and which it enriches. Simulation, synthesis and artificial intelligence techniques give it the plasticity it needs to resonate with the context from which it emerges.
To design and prototype experiences using situated media, Orbe designs and implements dedicated writing tools, accessible without technical skills via a mobile interface.
These tools have been designed as part of research projects, in collaboration with various cultural institutions, and are used both by members of the collective and in workshops aimed at a variety of audiences: schoolchildren, students, adults, artists and researchers.
Our aim with these tools is to involve the body in the writing process through short, iterative cycles that allow ideas to be rapidly tested and experimented with. And through the use of mobile writing interfaces.
